Let The Dominoes Fall

Epitaph - Them", but with these songs - a sensitive portrait of a returning serviceman and a loving tribute to those who serve - Rancid show an empathy for working Americans that recalls Springsteen or Petty. The new songs show a lyrical depth perhaps best shown in two tracks that center the album "Civilian Ways" and "The Bravest Kids".

Trouble Maker

Epitaph - As rancid, the band took up the torch of social commentary and the examination of the local scene and instantly inflamed the newly revived punk community, setting the stage for what was to come. Each album served as a layer cementing Rancid’s natural place in punk. This year tim armstrong vocals, matt freeman bass, guitar, Lars Frederiksen vocals, guitar, vocals, and Branden Steineckert drums return with their ninth studio album…Trouble Maker.

Born in the midst of the post-reagan economic downturn in the San Francisco Bay Area, Rancid came to light as Armstrong and Freeman were moving forward after the first band they founded, the East Bay region specifically, Operation Ivy, reached a friendly demise. Their lyrical themes established their identity in the punk rock world while musically they incorporated horns, rockabilly bass lines, rasp, reggae rhythms, and distortion.

Trouble Maker - Over the past 2 decades, rancid has shown awareness of their changing environment and have established their place in it, all while never losing sight of themselves as individuals or as a band. After having seen the american dream dwindle and fade within their country, community and homes, Rancid put their description of its aftermath into their songs.

Shrink-wrapped. Balancing their personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude, Rancid gave their listeners a community. Rancid as a band have always been imbued with a sense of place: the blue collar neighborhoods where they grew up in Berkley, their place as individuals within their band, California, their band as part of a movement and their evolving sense of place in relation to the world at large.

...Honor Is All We Know

Epitaph - Rancid has lead in extensive career since those days back in the East Bay including selling nearly 3 million albums with one Platinum album and one Gold Record under their belts And Out Come the Wolves, Let s Go. Shrink-wrapped. Shrink-wrapped. It has classic rancid songcraft: two minute songs packed with melody, personally empathetic and politically denunciatory.

Rancid s 2014 record honor is all we know is much like their other records in the sense that it is filled with the stories and characters that populate the band s lives, and reflects the cultural and political climate in which it was written and recorded. But honor is all we know is also unique in that it is filled with the growing insight of a band who has been doing this for a while now: it feels natural and organic, written without an agenda or a bone to pick, rather the culmination of lives lived largely with a keen interest in the world and a sense of brotherhood.

...Honor Is All We Know - In the late 1980 s tim armstrong and matt Freeman of Rancid were founders of arguably the most influential band from the Bay Area Operation Ivy. In the midst of anniversaries for both albums, rancid will be playing some high-profile festival shows in 2015, and the moment has never been better for old and new fans to remind themselves of the cultural force and punk rock power of Rancid.

Operation ivy has been cited by everyone from Green Day s Billie Joe Armstrong to Fat Mike of NOFX as the group that most affected the sound of their own bands.
